I recently visited the construction site of the new Basseterre High School in St. Kitts and Nevis to see the progress firsthand.
With ClientReferrals serving as the designated Public Benefactor for the Basseterre High School Public Benefit Option, this is a project we have been following closely. Seeing the work on the ground gives a very different perspective from reviewing plans, timelines and progress reports.
What is being built here is starting to feel increasingly real.
Construction Is Moving Into the Next Stage
Work is progressing across the academic buildings, with Building B now moving further into its structural phase.
Recent progress reports show that foundation works and the ground-floor slab have been completed, while precast columns and beams are being installed. Work on the hollowcore floor system is also underway.
Building A has also advanced, with footing works and upstand walls completed as construction continues across the wider site.
Seeing that progress firsthand gave me an even clearer sense of how far the project has come. Plans and construction reports tell part of the story, but standing on site and seeing the scale of the work underway makes the progress much more tangible.
The new school is no longer something we are only talking about. It is visibly taking shape.

Rebuilding an Important Part of St. Kitts and Nevis
Basseterre High School has a long history in the Federation.
Founded in 1967, the original school educated generations of Kittitians and Nevisians before the former facilities were eventually closed. For many people in St. Kitts and Nevis, BHS is therefore much more than the name of a school. It is part of their own history.
That is one of the things that makes this project significant.
The new development will include modern classrooms, science and IT laboratories, workshops, sporting facilities and spaces that can serve the wider community.
Walking through the site, it is easy to start imagining what these structures will eventually become. The construction taking place today will become spaces where students learn, teachers work and future generations build their own connection with Basseterre High School.
Turning Investment Into Visible Infrastructure
One of the reasons I believe projects like this matter is that they make the idea of public benefit very easy to understand.
The Basseterre High School project is supported through the Public Benefit Option under the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Programme. The PBO allows qualifying contributions to support approved projects with a clear national purpose.
Here, that connection is visible.
Investment is helping support the construction of education infrastructure that will have a direct role in the lives of students, families and the wider community.
For us at ClientReferrals, that is an important part of what the Public Benefit Option should represent: connecting investment with projects that people can see, use and benefit from over the long term.
